Overview

By the end of this program, the viewer should be able to:

  • Identify basic brain anatomy as it pertains to appreciation of pathologies such as stroke, hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, tumors, sinusitis and abscess
  • Recognize appropriate scan protocols for exams of the brain including FOV, kV, mAs, reconstruction algorithms and pitch.
  • Determine appropriate application for administration of intravenous iodinated contrast enhancement for basic brain exams.

Course Modules

Module 1: Basic Anatomy and Scan Parameters
   - Identify basic anatomy of the brain
   - List scan parameters for routine brain CT procedure
    
Module 2: Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Strokes
   - Associate structural changes within the brain and the event that caused them
   - List different types of strokes and bleeds
    -Recognize the indications and contraindications for Thrombolytic Therapy

Module 3: Special Brain Procedures Protocols
   - Recognize different CTA protocols 
    -Identify vascular anatomy of the brain
   - Define additional images created for specialized brain procedures
    
Module 4: Other Common Brain Procedures
   - List other commonly scanned brain procedures
   - Recognize terminology associated brain procedures
   - Identify anatomical structures used for correct positioning of brain procedures

The course objectives specifically targets X-ray and CT Technologists, plus other interested hospital personnel.
