Digital palpation has historically been the method of choice to examine the gravid cervix. The clinician subjectively evaluates cervical dilatation, softness effacement and position. Sonography now enables objective visual inspection of the gravid cervix. This program illustrates techniques necessary to properly evaluate the cervix in the pregnant patient and document the dramatic changes in the ultrasonic appearance that occur in the course of a pregnancy. Many programs have been devoted to examination of the pregnant uterus, but few deal solely with the cervix.
