This imaging technique is designed to separate the tissues and to reduce the overlapping of structures,
these are limiting factors in standard 2D mammography.

RAW ACQUISITION
To preserve microcalcification’s sharpness and to avoid image blur, step-and-shoot tube motion is an excellent choice. The tube makes a complete stop for each exposure. Investigations have demonstrated that an angular sweep of 25 degrees and a series of 9 low-dose exposures are well suited for SenoClaire1,2.

RAW ACQUISITION: STEP-AND-SHOOT VS. CONTINUOUS.
Comparing projection views and reconstructed image of 1 mm-wide, star-shaped calcifications, located 2.36 in (6 cm) above the detector, simulating a lesion in an average or thicker breast. The central star is intentionally missing a branch, which the continuous series does not show. The images were computed at the same dose as a 3D SenoClaire exam for a 6cm breast, with an angular sweep of 25° and 9 projection views, both for continuous (5°/s) and step-and-shoot motion.
NO BINNING TECHNOLOGY: A HIGHLY EFFICIENT DETECTOR
SenoClaire’s high SNR and high-speed read out capability allow the system to operate at the same small pixel size (100 μm) as in 2D digital mammography with no “binning” and resolution loss. This enables excellent visualization of microcalcifications.

NO BINNING TECHNOLOGY
Binning reduces spatial resolution, hinders the visualization of microcalcifications and increases high-frequency noise.

The SenoClaire CsI detector allows high-speed read out with very low remanence.
The 3D pixel is the same size as a 2D pixel with no loss in spatial resolution compared to 2D in all directions1.

1.N.Marshall, H.Bosmans, 29th annual meeting, February 7-8 2014, “Application of the draft EUREF protocol for Quality Control of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) systems” - measurements were done using phantoms and DBT equipment available on the market at the date of the study.
RECONSTRUCTION ALGORITHM: ASIRDBT
SenoClaire uses ASiRDBT, a calcification artifact correction iterative reconstruction algorithm that delivers off-plane images far superior to the traditional Filtered Back Projection (FBP) algorithm, in terms of both in-plane and out-of-plane artifacts.

3D GRID
GE SenoClaire is the first digital breast tomosynthesis system with an anti-scatter solution, contributing to excellent image quality and low dose for thick breasts.

When adding 2.5 cm PMMA, ACR phantom scores were higher with (10.3 ± 0.5) than without (8.3 ± 0.5) grid. In addition, the 3D-grid significantly improved signal uniformity throughout the phantom.
A HIGHLY EFFICIENT DETECTOR EVEN AT LOW DOSE
Despite a 9 times dose reduction in 3D mode, there is no impact on the DQE. The detector’s high efficiency is preserved when working with a fraction of the 2D dose. As a result, the information collected from multiple projections is almost equal to what would normally be expected from a full-dose full-field digital mammogram.
DQE 0.5 lp/mm - Rh/Kh 30 KV + 50mm PMMA
RECONSTRUCTION ALGORITHM: ASIRDBT
SenoClaire uses ASiRDBT, a calcification artifact correction iterative reconstruction algorithm that delivers off-plane images much improved in terms of both in-plane and out-of-plane artifacts versus the traditional Filtered Back Projection (FBP) algorithm.
